A tribute to Kalpana Chawla

By Keerthana Venkatesh

I saw all the girls play

with dolls and li’l houses,

And I saw a li’l girl

play with parts and pieces!

While all the kids read Enid Blyton,

Nancy Drew and Boons,

This li’l girl read ‘Space and Rockets’

through morning, night and noon!

While all around gazed the sky

reading their future star-

This li’l girl focused the stars

and aimed to reach that far!

Then one day when the world looked up,

they spotted a special star-

The star auraed with human light,

gazing the world from far!

Then did God look and say,

“She needs to remain atop

and help me lead the world from here,

so all can reach this far;

and learn that when you aim for stars

and achieve what you want,

you will shine through the night

for aeons… aoens and aeons!”

So, while the whole world grieves for her,

Let us also praise

This li’l girl who led the world

And reached her abode in space!
