This is love

By Aparna Bandyopadhyay

Rainbows in the sky, the smell of wet earth and a hand to hold,

Roses and coffee as they gaze,

Into each other's eyes, lo behold,

This is Love!

A bouquet of flowers, whispering in the cinema, and popcorn to hold,

Listening to a song, driving along,

Stealing a kiss, lo behold,

This is Love!

As the years have rolled, children have flown, only each other to hold,

Helping with pills, when health is frail,

Each with walking sticks, lo behold,

This is Love.

She is always in bed, he feeds her with a spoon, he is her rock to hold,

He wipes her face, singing an old song and lo behold,

This is Love.

The bed is empty and the chair rocks,

Almost sightless, has memories to hold,

Croons to a sweetheart of yesterday,

He whispers sweet nothing and lo behold,

This is Love.
