Transient Power

By Aparna Bandyopadhyay

I sit on my rocking chair under the shade,

And reminisce of times gone by.

Running with speed, no time to sit

No time for the child who now can reach high!

Neighbours ran to their windows

When my long car pulled up home.

There were many hands raised

In expectations, during a storm!

A flashy signature of mine could,

Make or break lives too many.

Oh what heady power it was,

To make a sunny day all rainy!

Little did I stop to think ,

The tears that have come my way.

Power is but fate's mistress,

With tide of time can wash away!

If I had just paused to think,

Family and friends are wealth that be.

I wouldn't be lonesome today,

Hugging transient power to me!
